The challenge
Wycliffe College located in the outskirts of Stonehouse, Gloucestershire sits on 52 acres of countryside. It consists of a Nursery school for ages 2-4 , a preparatory school for ages 4-13 and Senior school for ages 13-18, resulting in a total of over 800 pupils enrolled within the school. The school approached eEnergy looking for a way to reduce energy consumption and costs without investing capital up front. Lighting can make up 52% of a school’s total electricity cost, so upgrading to efficient LED would provide immediate benefit to Wycliffe College.
eEnergy carried out an audit-grade survey of the school’s existing lighting. This included fluorescent, tungsten, and halogen fittings which were inefficient to operate and provided poor lighting levels. Many fixtures were near end-of-life or already obsolete. Due to high levels of lighting failures, there was also a high maintenance cost associated with the lighting in place.
The solution
After the survey, eEnergy’s team of lighting experts designed a tailored solution for Wycliffe College’s Senior and Prep schools. This involved a point-for-point replacement of 3,515 light fittings, completed with minimal disruption to staff and pupils. Our install teams have enhanced DBS checks to ensure security and safety throughout the installation process.
The light fittings across the school are sourced from quality European suppliers and come with a 7-year warranty, meaning Wycliffe College’s new lighting will remain hassle-free. eEnergy also provides a comprehensive ongoing maintenance package which removes the burden of maintenance from onsite teams.
The results
The lighting upgrade dramatically improved lighting quality for Wycliffe college, creating a better working and learning environment. Lux levels improved 15-25% across the school and the project is delivering substantial cost and carbon savings.
