Gateway College- delivering excellence in Further Education.
Gateway Sixth Form College, part of Better Futures MAT, supports over 1300 learners from across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, providing a range of vocational and academic qualifications from Entry level 1 to Advanced level 3.
The College moved from Leicester city centre to a new 12 acre purpose built site in Hamilton, situated 3 miles to the north east of the city, on the borders of Leicestershire in August 2009 .
Gateway strives to deliver ‘excellence in education’ and enables students to have a personalized learning experience aiming to challenge, inspire and motivate regardless of a student’s background or ability.
The challenge- embracing the EV revolution.
The vision of the DfE Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy is for the United Kingdom to be the world-leading education sector in sustainability and climate change by 2030.
Against this backdrop, Gateway had already partnered with eEnergy to deploy energy efficient LED lighting to dramatically reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions.
For the next stage of their decarbonisation journey, the college were looking to deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging, supporting the demand from students, teachers and visitors for easy-to-use EV charging facilities to propel the college towards a future of greener transportation.
The college were looking to benefit from the government’s OZEV workplace charging grant, allowing them to achieve a cost effective deployment with up to 75% of the cost of installation covered by the grant.
As an OZEV approved installer and existing net zero partner, eEnergy were the obvious choice for Gateway to accelerate their EV charging plans.
The solution- a seamless EV deployment.
eEnergy’s expert team worked closely with Gateway to understand their needs, guide them through the process and design and deploy a cost-effective EV charging solution, tailored to their requirements. This design was optimised to work with the electrical capacity, infrastructure and layout of the college campus.
To accelerate the College’s EV transition, eEnergy recommended the installation of 9x22kW dual chargers with load balancing, providing fast, reliable charging through 18 chargepoints.
Turnkey solution, seamless transition: eEnergy’s turnkey eCharge solution enabled a seamless EV charging transition for Gateway including survey, system design and installation, chargers, software, ongoing maintenance and guidance on the OZEV grant application.
Rapid, compliant deployment: The installation process covered everything from site survey and project design through to groundworks and commissioning. Using highly skilled teams and high quality materials, eEnergy ensured a right first time, compliant installation with minimal disruption to the College. This included thorough testing, commissioning and certification
A comprehensive handover: To ensure that Gateway would get the maximum benefit from their new EV chargers, the eEnergy team ensured a comprehensive handover and onboarding process. This included a demonstration of the correct operation of the charging equipment, full operating instructions and maintenance requirements
User-friendly software: The eCharge EV charging hub provided the College with a user-friendly software platform to manage their EV charging system in one place. The system provided them with the control and flexibility to make the most of their chargers including the ability to offer pay-per-use sessions, set tariffs including different rates for staff and visitors, access accurate reporting and insights into usage.
Ongoing support: To provided Gateway with added peace of mind, eEnergy’s pre-planned maintenance is included to keep the chargers in tiptop condition, along with an ongoing 24/7 software and hardware support package and extended warranty.
Over 60% saved with the OZEV Workplace Charging Grant.
Gateway College were able to cut the cost of their EV charging deployment by over 60% by taking advantage of the UK government’s EV charging grant.
The OZEV Workplace Charging grant for state-funded education institutes, provides support towards the costs of the purchase, installation and infrastructure of electric vehicle charge points at their sites. Schools and colleges can get up to 75% off the cost to buy and install charge points up to a maximum of £2,500 per socket.
As an OZEV approved installer, eEnergy worked with Gateway to guide them through the grant process to ensure they could achieve significant savings on the cost of their EV charging deployment.
