eEnergy and Cognita Schools

Cognita Schools needed modern, efficient lighting to dramatically cut energy consumption and transform the learning and teaching environment across their UK school estate.

eEnergy was chosen as Cognita’s preferred partner via a competitive tender. Cognita were impressed by eEnergy’s unique combination of  competitive price, technical excellence, warranty & maintenance, commitment to sustainability, funding solutions and ability to deliver.

About Cognita Schools

Cognita is a family of over 100 independent schools across 16 countries with over 15,000 teaching and support staff educating around 85,000 children and young people.

Launched in 2004, Cognita is an extraordinary community of diverse yet connected schools. They share one common purpose: to deliver an outstanding holistic education that will enable their students to thrive in a rapidly evolving world

The challenge

Following the tender award,  eEnergy’s expert team  has risen to the challenge. We’ve worked tirelessly to successfully conduct surveys, design lighting specifications, and successfully install 29 schools to date (ranging between 80 and 2000 light fittings per site).

The solution

eEnergy’s experts proposed a replacement LED lighting solution to dramatically enhance lighting quality and lux levels throughout the school estate and provide a lighter, brighter learning and teaching environment for pupils and staff alike.

eEnergy’s as-a-service solution meant this could be achieved without upfront capital investment. A simple monthly fee covered the cost of design, installation and hassle-free ongoing maintenance, with this costs more than outweighed by the savings from switching to more energy efficient lighting  Through the implementation of this lighting solution, energy costs and consumption levels have decreased substantially, delivering transformational long term benefits for Cognita.

And it didn’t stop there.  To ensure minimal disruption and a rapid installation,  eEnergy teams deployed a mix of school holiday working and out of hours working during term time.

The results

  • 29 schools upgraded to LED lighting
  • Total NET saving of £1.34m across 10 years
  • 60% reduction in energy consumption for lighting
  • Lighter and brighter learning environment
  • Carbon emission reduction of 207 tCO2e, equivalent to a total of 9,857 trees

Testimonial

We’ve never had so many positive comments about contractors going into schools before. Pupils and teachers leave at the end of their school day and then magically the next morning the lights are brighter, the area is just as clean and they’re in a nicer learning environment. We were really happy with the turnkey solution and the finance model.
