Newcastle College commits to major LED lighting upgrade
Driving sustainability and enhancing campus environments with energy-efficient LED solutions
Newcastle College Group (NCG), one of the UK’s leading college groups, is taking a decisive step toward sustainability by partnering with eEnergy to deliver a £1.17m LED lighting upgrade across its campuses in Newcastle and Carlisle. This innovative project, requiring no upfront capital, will reduce NCG’s lighting energy consumption and carbon footprint by an impressive 61%.
Transformative benefits beyond energy savings.
This LED upgrade is about more than just energy efficiency; it also delivers significant non-energy-related benefits to enhance the overall campus experience:
- Enhanced learning environment: High-quality LED lighting improves concentration, reduces eye strain, and fosters an environment conducive to learning for students and staff.
- Improved security: Bright, reliable LED lighting ensures well-lit spaces, deterring unauthorised access and enhancing campus safety.
- Staff attraction and retention: A well-lit, modern environment helps attract and retain talented educators and staff, creating a positive workplace culture.
Over 10 years, the project is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 1,666 TCO2e—equivalent to planting 76,519 trees—demonstrating the significant environmental impact of this initiative.
Tackling key challenges with precision.
The project, set to be completed by March 2025, addresses three critical priorities for NCG:
- Social and environmental value: eEnergy’s commitment to sustainability and climate impact was central to NCG’s selection of a delivery partner.
- Seamless delivery: With ten buildings requiring upgrades, eEnergy’s ability to mobilise quickly without compromising on health and safety, quality, or the campus experience was a deciding factor.
- Timely completion: eEnergy’s capacity to deliver at scale and meet tight deadlines ensured confidence in a successful project delivery.
Collaboration for success.
To deliver this ambitious project, eEnergy is partnering with Luceco, a leader in sustainable LED technology. Together, they will provide tailored solutions that align with the unique needs of NCG while maximising energy efficiency.
A shared vision.
Harvey Sinclair, CEO of eEnergy, commented:
